Discussion to be held on emerging markets
The Association of Investment Companies (AIC) has announced that it is to host a roundtable event to discuss the future prospects for emerging markets.

Baring Emerging Europe and Henderson TR Pacific will be joining the AIC in the debate later this month to see whether emerging markets will continue to outperform supposedly more developed markets during the economic downturn.

Findings from the AIC showed that companies in emerging markets and Asia Pacific investment companies have grown by 19 per cent over a year and 339 per cent during the past decade.

The Asia Pacific Excluding Japan sector has increased by up to five per cent during the past year and 297 per cent over the past ten.

At the event, Martin Majdaniuk, manager of the Baring Emerging Europe fund, will talk about the effects of the global credit crunch on emerging markets and the price of oil.

Manager of Henderson TR Pacific Andy Beal is to discuss the importance of China to growth in Asian markets.

According to Marketwatch, research from EPFR Globa showed that investors removed $12.3 billion (£6.2 billion) from emerging markets equity funds in the first half of the year.
