23 April 2008
Findings from a study by Colliers International revealed that tourist destinations such as Hua Hin, Rayong, Koh Samui and Phuket would be the most popular places for Scandinavian money to go to.
Villas, resorts and condominiums were the most popular projects with Sweden being the most prominent investor on the list.
Risinee Sarikaputra, manager at Colliers' research department, said: "In recent years, Scandinavians have become investors in Thailand. Hundreds of Swedish home-buyers are spearheading an incredibly strong Nordic property boom in Thailand."
According to the research, Rayong is seeing Scandinavian investment in projects so far valued at Bt 4.79 billion (£76 million) this year, followed by Hua Hin with Bt 4.1 billion (£65 million) and Koh Samui with Bt 2.07 billion (£3.2 million).
Meanwhile, findings from the Tourism Authority of Thailand showed that the number of tourist arrivals was 14.5 million persons during last year.
